We have been working to compile a retrospective art book for the San Jose born watercolor artist Marie Brumund since her unexpected death in 2016. In her vivid watercolors, she "juxtaposed the motionless quality of the still life with the vibrant energy of all over patterning to create a joyous interplay of form and color, stillness and motion" as quoted from her solo exhibition at the Monterey museum of modern art in 1992. Marie Brumund was born in San Jose, California in 1948, she studied at San Jose State University and Mills college, and went on to show at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Palace of the Legion of Honor in 1982, and the Monterey Museum of Art in 1992. I hope to share the brilliant work of this San Jose native in a more indelible way by publishing a book or retrospective catalogue and organizing posthumous exhibitions of her paintings in various art institutions between San Francisco, San Jose, and Monterey county.
